.....the new lewis hamilton

....this book i'm reading ...something struck me which relates to it and my song writing. you'll have to read it but it kinda goes along the lines of.... we live in a matter before mind civilisation now. we hold great value in things and not in thoughts. it talks about a time before the world was created and while the earth was becoming more "solid" where only thoughts and ideas existed floating in the "whatever". it's kinda getting at the view that around us float thoughts and ideas and energy..... they're there for us to experience or be moved by if only we knew how. we should strive for a world like that of ancient times where the world was a mind before matter civilisation (i'm not using all the right terms here but you get the gist... read the book). well what i was thinking was... when i set out to write a song i never really set out to write a song about anything particular but find on reading the lyrics back once the song is written they are very much about my experience or how i'm feeling, or what i'm going through at the moment, or something i've gone through in the past. this appears to happen subconsciously. i used to think that i was simply interpreting the words into my experience. i.e. they're not about anything but i give them meaning afterwards from my conscious mind. i'm now thinking the song writing process taps into something else... it creates a mind before matter experience and the song writes itself drawing on ideas and thoughts that are either (or both) outside of myself or locked in my subconscious mind........
"funeral" by arcade fire was excellent - much better listened to as a whole rather than just listening to the first 30 seconds of a track then pressing skip on my ipod. favourite track "neighborhood #4 (7 kettles)"
now listening to bob dylan - highway 61 revisited
the book i'm reading is still "the secret history of the world" by jonathan black
