.....album 1 of 7 days of albums ....air "moon safari"

....tonight i went to see alex's new band "my other life" at the tyne, a pub in newcastle. and they played a great set. there was a good crowd in with many friendly and unexpected faces. miller was there with me, alex's family were in strong evidence, and i bumped into laura from karl's other band "the vaudeville class", and janet from work. she was out with her hubby, mother-in-law and anthony who used to work with us! it was just a bizarre and wonderful night with a surprise at every turn! the band were great. some top bass playing from alex "why play one note when i get away with 14" main ;-). alex described the band as somewhere around coldplay and keane which instantly put janet off. i suggested "a bit like elbow but more pop" - this appeared a more appealing description.

earlier today i was in hmv. now i'm not a fan of the bloated record store for two reasons. 1) they don't sell vinyl anymore - i was always impressed that despite vinyl no longer being the force it was they still had a little shelf at the back - well, no more. and 2) because you can't find the flippin' music these days for the dvd's, books, and games..... very sad. but once in a while you walk in and clearly they are trying to get rid of stock as they have stuff discounted to ridiculously low prices. to be honest i'm not a fan of buying music in shops these days, i tend to get it all on line digitally - not even a fan of the cd. if i wanted to own a physical copy i'd rather have vinyl. but sometimes an opportunity is too good to miss so i bought 7 albums for £22 and will listen to one a day and tell you all about them.

today was air - "moon safari" - click for some info. this was a nice album. i discovered these by chance after downloading some tunes by "air" (??) but it would appear not this "air" as further investigation leads me to believe the tunes i downloaded were by a producer called airtheme - this wasn't very clear - but joy (!) i have now discovered this "air". "sexy boy" and "kelly watch the stars" are instantly recognisable. i always needed to be able to hear the lyrics so singing in french would not have been helpful but having listened to lots of post rock and dance it doesn't seem as important to be able to catch the lyrics now.... this was beautiful, in places haunting, and just a little inspiring.
