....the trimmers arms
....two wiseguys booned up to the trimmer's arms, in south shields for an open mic night. michael mcnally and jackson rowan (of the renowned moobs) host the night - the first one in this venue and also host "first tuesday" at the robin hood in jarrow - another open mic night....
...the talent on display is always great, from the well polished, to the emerging and developing ...it's all good and all very diverse ...blues, rock, acoustic, full bands ...you name it it gets played (...makes me think we should try our dance stuff out there at some point ;-))
..the trimmers seemed a great pub ...and i was most impressed when at about 10 out came roast potatoes, sausages and buns! mint! ...well you know me 'n' food....
....as for the gig ...we were offered the opening slot and a second slot later! and given all the talent on display felt very honoured to get the opportunity to get up twice. first set we played "smile" and "swimming/drowning" - two of the tunes we recorded with pete for our "for sale" e.p. we'd never played them before and while it's always difficult playing a slow song at these type of things they both seemed to go down well. we finished with "perfect, a song from the jimmy two times days. the second set was "chocolate and sex", that i announced as our marmite song - you either love it or hate it - then "they might hear us" a recent song that's been gigged a few times, finishing with the classic tiffany song (yes really!) "i think we're alone now"! ...as karl said "never underestimate the power of the tiffany song" ...and yes it went down a storm!
getting home around 1 makes it a late night but i'm off work today so i'm off to mix some of the recordings from the weekend!
