...walking with the millers - the esh parish walk

i've used this pictures ofa the internet of ushaw college that we walked past while i wait for lynne to send me the one of the absolutely beautiful and very close rainbow we saw.....
...walk number 2 saw us face the esh parish walk, a walk of about 7 miles on a nice sunday morning. we had rain,a little wind, and some lovely sunshine while we walked a circular route from langely park and back again. we took in several farms and some lovely buildings; ushaw college being one of them. ushaw college was founded 1568 in douai, france and has been located since 1808 in durham. it is a seminary for the catholic church. my dad was telling me after the walk that when we were having a coffee that it is about to close. now, despite my feelings about religion, which i'm sire you are aware of, the fact this place is closing seemed tinged with sadness.
....while on the walk we came across a beautiful rainbow after a short rain shower. it seemed close enough to touch.
...we found a lovely wall to sit on to have our coffee and cake and took in the gorgeous scenery. standing up to contemplate the direction to walk in we studied the map and route description. bewildered we pondered how to get the fence, which was to our right, on our left. the farmer waved at us and with a jaunty directional point he nodded in the direction of the stile we had missed a few yards back which took us on the correct side of the fence. turned out the wall we'd been sat on was in his back garden rather than in the field we should have been walking through! he seemed a pleasant fellow so no harm done!
....have spent the afternoon collapsed on the couch feeling sorry for myself. a quick google indicates my symptoms may be as a consequence of dehydration!! it's a dangerous business this walking! more fluids next time.
