.....good morning all

...good morning all .....now this might seem strange but to me it looks a lovely day ...it's all foggy and atmospheric ....i love it
...yesterday was a packed day ...as well as getting some stuff done around the house i managed 9 holes of golf with luke and an hour on the weights.... hey it felt good! listened back to some of the music that i've been working on over the last couple of weeks and liked what i heard ....no bloody good that though is it i need other people to like it ...oh you see now i just look a bit needy don't i! ....oh bugger.... look now i've contradicted myself having said in past blog that success and public appeal should not be the goal of the artistic process.
it's an interesting thing this isn't it because a lot of bands come into the limelight because of their difference, because they push the boundaries but then they, in words i probably wouldn't use myself, "sell out". does the band sell out or does their alternativeness just become the norm - does mainstream catch up with them rather than they become mainstream. i'm not sure. i think sometimes bands and artists find a formula and are scared not to stick to that formula. but is that not the audiences fault. examples? elton john... wonderful songwriter now seems quite trite but is still successful 'cos he's not changed. simple minds went for a more celtic sound and bombed. u2 tried dance and while it was still successful it was more out of tolerance and was then followed by some of their best worked subsequently followed by a number of very ordinary albums. robbie william (honestly his first album is a must have for your collection - or at least a listen on spotify) who tried to change direction and bombed - mind rudebox wa a bit sh*t. but you get the point.... we demand bands continue to morph and change in the name of creative excellence and when they do we don't like it!
....today? swimming i think.... and maybe a run! we'll see how i goes.....
