...the weekend of many things
......including red pancakes for breakfast on sunday!
//friday night//
chris and lynne and matthew and james arrived for pizza's. it's funny but you just wanted to sit and look at them because they are so so cute. and to be honest matthew and james are quite sweet too!! it was a lovely night, but to be fair, talking to chris and lynne has been surpassed by just looking at the babies who are still fab! pizza's were cracking as ever but i think it's about time we change our topping repertoire from the traditional peperoni, chicken and sweetcorn, and vegetarian... not sure what to though. off the miller's went to a night of feeding and being awake i suspect...
//saturday morning//
i find ikea fascinating! well not so much ikea but the behaviour of the shoppers including ourselves! what annoys me most of all are the people just ambling around who are clearly only there because they've got nothing better to do on saturday and actually don't want anything but have just gone "for a look"... well if that's you get out of the flippn' way 'cos i want to get in and get out and get home!
But what fascinates me the most are all of the people, including ourselves, who arrive with their tape measure! not only do ikea provide tape measures... ....but oh no i don't want to use the ikea measure it may not be as accurate as my industrial strength huge metal tape measure..... but they also put a label on every mortal thing that tells you how big it is... width, depth, height, length, whatever you want it's there! but oh no not us the consumer... "i must check it as the ikea label can not be trusted! it says it 150cm but is it? i must measure... hmm.. thre you are just short of 150!". "how much short?" "less than millimeter but still!" "and the depth.....?" "52". "oh yes look... it says that on the label!" To be fair though the label is not to be trusted as on many items it says things like ash and oak and beech and none of it's been anywhere near a real tree!
//saturday evening//
dj'ing in newcastle at the leazes labour club for none other than joe mcelderry's dad! was jo there? was he hell! in switzerland on holiday! flippin heck - wanted a photograph and everything! it was a wonderful affair as most if these social club type things are. the people who come to these sort of functions really know there stuff - albeit mostly mainstream. even the grandma's are up on the floor to a bit of pitbull and the nippers are getting jiggy to all the motown. no preconceptions just all generations having a great party together.... it was a blast and went really well from my point of view despite a couple of technical problems! one software crash and some mysterious sound coming from somewhere on the laptop behind one song.... i think i played something from every decade from the 50's onwards. best of all was the woman who came up and asked for some 60's stuff. i said "absolutely" so eventually played some motown and up she got to dance..... half an hour later she's here again "can you play some 60's stuff?" "yes", i said, "like before?" she nodded but looked slightly puzzled. more motown type 60's stuff and up on the floor she was. half an hour later... same thing... "can you play some 60's stuff". "yeah, more motown?" ha ha! said the look on her face! "no some rock 'n' roll!" "ah! i thought 50's!" poor woman had been waiting all night and must of been wondering why the hell i was saying yes then doing nothing and wondering why i kept insisting that i was giving her what she wanted with the motown!!
...and 3 people asked for nothern sould and i had to say i had none but said.... "who do you mean when you say northern soul?" to which the stock reply was "well you know, northern soul". and i wanted to say "no i don't fu**ing know or i'd have some and i'd be playing it!!!!" i was even hooked up to the internet so said to one guy "tell me who and i'll download it right now and play it!" and you guessed it "well you know northern sould!!!" .......so my mission to find some northern soul!!!
//sunday//
