...ah caught you out there!
...ah caught you out there didn't i! an early morning blog! there's not been one of them for a while!!
my day is a busy one but an off work one so that can't be bad. christmas related jobs, banking related jobs and up to my mams for a hair cut.... and then tonight those faux celtic japesters mumford and sons at the arena.....
i was wondering last night at the use of such phrases as pan fried and oven baked. how else can you bake something other than in the oven. and if you did bake it in some sort of other baking related device the outcome would be the same. equally frying something on a griddle rather than in a frying pan would result in the same resulting item surely! we add words to things to give them more significance. it's what the marks and spencers adverts play on isn't it. it's not just a thing it's a marks and spencers thing. so it's better to have a pan fried food item than simply a fried one.
our friends at wikipedia do give an explanation and say it is to differentiate between shallow frying and deep frying. their explanation sounds like shallow frying to me. yet they remain curiously silent on the phrase oven baked.... suspicious! ;-)
