.......intellectual weekend
Our weekend has proved to be somewhat of a chilled out affair. Friday night saw Jonathan cycle here and stay over. We devoured home made pizzas and wedges whilst watching Shaun of the Dead (not intellectual)!
Saturday was earmarked for a boys bike ride but the inclement weather meant we headed, in the car, up to my mam and dad for scones and coffee and then back home where Jonathan and I watched the Mumford and Sons - live at redrocks (stimulating but not intellectual). I'd have said that, while I do like them, I'm not a massive fan. But, there is something engaging about them and what they do really translates into the live show. It adds something that isn't there on the recordings. In fact in one of the interviews one of the band members said this. He said that they are a band 'in the moment' not paying much attention to where they have been or where they are going. And I get that. That's why live music is so important. Being in the moment in a room ( or arena) with people creating something right there in front of you. Now that's special.
And on Sunday we got to the intellectual bit! Luke in his bedroom doing his homework researching endangered animals in French speaking countries, me in my study marking reflective assignments, and christine in her study writing HR related assignments. Oh yes, it's all the rage you know. You know how back in the day it was all about the two car family? Well now the two study family is where it's at! We had an interesting little discussion about direct and indirect discrimination thinking about nationality, ethnicity, and culture! Check us out! I guess that's where our academic endeavours cross with that kind of thing. Tell you what it's a riot in our house!! I spotted she was utilising Maslow's hierarchy of needs and wanted to have a discussion but she'd been at it all day and was desperate to get finished so I thought me standing behind her going 'oooo! Maslow's hierarchy of needs shall we talk about that?', might not have gone down well!
